So BART has this idiotic new program aimed at boosting ridership. Everyday there is now a "word of the day" (maybe it's only once a week, not every day). When you are on BART and you hear the word of the day, you can text it to some number to be entered in that day's prize giveaway. So basically, what happens is, as you are standing at the platform waiting for your train, you hear repeated announcements. I mean REPEATED announcements. This was what I heard during yesterday's commute home: "Today's word of the day is BART. Text BART to 41441 to be entered to win today's prize giveaway, $500 worth of gourmet chocolates from Black and Green's Gourmet Chocolates." First a female voice said that. Then a male voice. Then back to the female voice. In the ten minutes I was in the Powell Street station, I heard this announcement at least 5 times. This is supposed to ATTRACT riders??? Incessant and annoying announcements when I am trying to quietly read my book? This makes me LESS LIKELY to want to ride BART. How fucking idiotic! They pay people to come up with these ideas???
